Space
Space work is rarely series work. It is about one-offs and small batches, where a single part represents months of preparation and there is no second chance.
Does Fijn Mekaniek Nelissen make parts for the space industry?
Yes. Space falls within the same EN 9100:2018 scope as our aviation work. We make complex prototypes and small series in metal and plastic, with full inspection and traceability. For one-off, highly complex parts we use our 5-axis and multitasking machines.

That is why the emphasis here is on manufacturability advice beforehand and on inspection afterwards. Together with your engineers we review the design: which set-ups are needed, where the risk of distortion lies, which sequence of operations gives the most stable result.
For production we have 5-axis simultaneous milling machines and multitasking machines that turn and mill in a single set-up. Fewer set-ups mean fewer stacked errors — with complex geometry, that is the difference between a good part and a rejected one.
It helps that turning, milling, EDM, grinding, blasting and measuring all happen under one roof. A one-off does not have to leave the building between operations, and every step can be traced back to the people who carried it out.

Frequently asked questions
Do you make one-offs for the space industry?
Yes. We are equipped for the most complex prototypes as well as for large series. For one-offs and small batches we use our 5-axis and multitasking machines.
Which certification applies to your space work?
The same as for aviation: EN 9100:2018 and ISO 9001:2015, under certificate number BE014750. Space is explicitly included in the scope of that certificate.
How do you handle complex geometry?
With 5-axis simultaneous milling machines and multitasking machines that turn and mill in a single set-up. Every extra set-up adds a source of error, so the fewer that are needed, the more stable the result.
Do you also make single parts?
Yes. We are equipped for the most complex prototypes and for large series. For one-offs and small batches we use the 5-axis and multitasking machines.
